I have devoted my medical career to treating disorders of the musculoskeletal system. Originally Board Certified as a Family Physician, I subsequently went on to obtain a Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) in Sports Medicine.
In the 1980’s, with the support of the medical group of Prepaid Health Plan (PHP), I was able to establish a Department of Musculoskeletal Medicine. My private practice was opened in 2001 at the Madison-Irving Medical Center in Syracuse, New York.
Early in my training, I was introduced to Orthopaedic Medicine (non-surgical orthopedics) as developed by Dr. James Cyriax which started my journey into a better understanding of the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders. Shortly thereafter, I added basic manipulation, joint injections, epidurals, and prolotherapy.
Prolotherapy was the first regenerative treatment modality added which is aimed at strengthening injured connective tissue. I was fortunate to have been trained personally by Dr. Gus Hemwall. I remain grateful to Dr. Jeffrey Patterson and to my many colleagues associated with the Hackett Hemwall Foundation.
My educational journey led me to be certified in acupuncture after finishing the program at UCLA followed by a trip to China. I have attended multiple educational meetings for training in spinal injections. Through the Canadian College of Osteopathy, I completed a 5 year program in osteopathic diagnosis and manipulation methods.
Throughout my career, I have continued to search for the latest effective treatments for treating musculoskeletal pain. Two of the latest treatment additions have been neuropathic injection treatment (aka. perineural injection treatment) developed by Dr. John Lyftogt. Another effective addition has been injections augmented with the addition of an oxygen/ozone mixture known as prolozone developed by Dr. Frank Shallenberger. I am grateful to both of these medical pioneers for their guidance.
Treating unstable sacroiliac joints has been one of my special interests and as a result I have developed a specialized procedure to treat this difficult and often unrecognized common problem.
Platelet rich plasma (PRP) injections have been a regular part of my practice for a number of years. I am presently investigating the addition of stem cell treatment methods.
Fluoroscopy and ultrasound imaging are available in the office to aid in diagnosis and to help in more accurate placement of injections.
In addition, I have had the opportunity of serving on multiple medical mission trips to Central and South America. I am a past president of the American Association of Orthopaedic Medicine and a fellow of the American Academy of Pain Management. Several university based research projects and clinical studies have been developed and completed by my office.
Before closing, I would like to personally thank all the patients that have trusted me with caring for them and appreciate the confidence they have placed in me over the years.
